We offer the Sandy Island tour as a 4-Hour Tour or a 6-Hour Tour.
Managed by The Nature Conservancy, Sandy Island is the largest undeveloped fresh water island on the East Coast. It's 9,000+ acres are home to a wide range of wildlife, including herons, egrets, swallow-tailed kites, otters, alligators, and the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. Our 6-Hour tour combines the two 4-Hour tour options into one longer tour, letting you experience the full range of what Sandy Island has to offer. Paddle stable touring kayaks along 8 miles of pristine black water creeks and abandoned rice canals and take a short hike into the heart of Sandy Island to see the unique ecosystems hidden within.
This tour is a good opportunity to see young alligators. The adult alligators are very much afraid of humans, and are therefore much less likely to be seen. We DO NOT feed alligators on our tours. This keeps the alligators wild, and keeps them afraid of humans.
