HUNTINGTON BEACH SALT MARSH CREEKS

Paddle through spartina cord grass marshes and saltwater creeks from the sandy dunes of Huntington Beach State Park at Murrells Inlet, past mysterious Drunken Jack Island, reputed to hold the treasures of the pirate Blackbeard, and to a fresh water lagoon with alligators basking in the sun.

See bald eagles, osprey, wood stork, herons, egrets, sea turtles, wading shore birds, oyster catchers, maybe even porpoises and sting rays that inhabit the ecotone between sand dunes and maritime forest.

RESERVATIONS

To make a reservation for our Monday 10am 2-hour tour with a State Park Naturalist, please contact the Huntington Beach State Park Education Center at (843) 235-8755 by 4:00pm on the Sunday before the tour. Monday 10am tours meet at Huntington Beach State Park.

Huntington Beach Four-Hour Tours meet at either Morse Park or the Oyster Shell Recycling landing (both in Murrells Inlet), depending on tides. The Summer Moonlight tours meet at Morse Park. Please contact Black River Outdoors Center at (843) 546-4840 or use our website Tour Reservation tool to make a reservation for either of these tours.

From the North:South on Hwy. 17 Bypass past Inlet Square Mall (Murrells Inlet) about 4 ½ miles. South of merge with Hwy. 17 Business is the entrance to the State Park on left. Stop at Guard House, continue on road across causeway, left at "T", park at Nature Center.

Driving Time:Little River 1 hr, N. Myrtle Beach 45 min, Myrtle Beach 30 min, Surfside 25 min, Garden City 15 min, Murrells Inlet 10 min.

From the South:North on Hwy. 17 past Brookgreen Gardens about ¼ mile, entrance to State Park on right. Stop at Guard House, continue on road across causeway, left at "T", park at Nature Center.
