Mills' Atlas of Georgetown (1825) Map
Surveyed by Wm. Hemingway in 1820, this map of Georgetown District, South Carolina, was originally included as part of the Mills' Atlas of South Carolina, 1825, which also included 27 other district maps. This map shows how Georgetown County appeared during the height of the plantation years prior to the War Between the States and the collapse of its aristocratic agrarian society. Details include the family names of rice plantations
that lined the rivers, locations of churches, villages, and ferry crossings that no longer exist. A bird's eye view of an important moment in history for the Tidelands of South Carolina.
